Rosemary Jones

My piece of Communicable Disease is titled "evolution of hope". It was created in response to experiencing almost the entirety of the other CommD panels. I was taken by the tumultuous upheavals of the work as a whole, through ancient mythology to contemporary race riots and war, that seemed to reach a peak at the panels that preceeded mine. Through all the dis-ease that we as human beings have endured, what is compelling to me is that humanity persists.

My response to dis-ease therefore represents a shift towards hope. As the dis-ease and chaos climaxes, the chaos gives way to hope, as we move towards a new era, a rebirth, an evolution of hope. My work is a tribute to humanity's remarkable capacity for dragging itself up again out of the muck and the mire, picking itself up and striving forward, not in denial of the realities of dis-ease, but in spite of them.
